Rare and Highly Collectible Vintage Mermaid Freeman-McFarlin Soap Dish Planter. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
This rare vintage mermaid is an absolute favorite among collectors of Freeman-McFarlin ceramics.
In 1951, Anthony Freeman would join the company started by Gerald McFarlin in 1927.
Freeman went on to design the ceramic mermaids that are now so incredibly collectible.
This little beauty is a planter-style mermaid has a lot of really fantastic details. Her skin is a lovely light flesh-tone with a realistic matte finish.
The matte finish continues to the small of the mermaid's back until the tail bursts into a glittering array of reflective gold-tone speckles.
Her luxuriously long fish-tail sweeps up to rest on her backside; the detail is made all the more exquisite by the shimmering golden flecks.
The mermaid holds a large clam shell which boasts a gorgeous white finish, giving it a look not unlike abalone or mother-of-pearl.
Her hair and face have been masterfully painted with fantastic detail. She does not have any rouge or lipstick which is correct for authentic Freeman McFarlin mermaids.
Her long blonde hair is gathered into a high pony-tail and accented with a band of glittering gold glaze.
There is a stamped mark on the underside of the piece which reads "Freeman-McFarlin, 19©58, U.S.A."
This mark is perfectly correct, proving without a doubt that this lady is entirely genuine.
The piece shows some minor wear on the exterior, as well as in the interior of the planter area.
Otherwise, this little mermaid remains in outstanding vintage condition. Avid-collectors will recognize this as a real stand-out piece in the world of vintage ceramics.
